Salty taste of fish sauce rich with protein that goes perfect with every meal
Fish sauce originated in the Southeast Asian countries where it was used primarily as source of protein. Early fishing boats were unable to venture into the deeper ocean to catch larger fish, instead they decided to stay close to shore and netting many small fish lacking in meat. They found that by layering these many small fish in barrels with salt, they could produce a protein rich sauce. Fish sauce became a primary source of protein. It is often simply mixed with rice and used as an ingredient in cooking.
